PeaceKeeper prides itself on its slogan "No Nasty Anything!" for a reason:  we're dedicated to creating cosmetics using non-toxic ingredients that will keep your body safe and healthy.  All of our products are acetone-, paraben-, phthalates-, and gluten-free, and we carry vegan-friendly products too (check out our line of Vegan Nail Paints!). Lip Gloss ingredients:

Rated 1 (low hazard) out of 10 (hazardous) by the Environmental Working Group’s "Skin Deep" rating system.

• Organic castor oil: an evergreen shrub that has been used medicinally for about 4,000 years.  Castor oil contains lectins which are carbohydrate binding proteins.
• Organic beeswax: produced from the hives of honey bees.  It is estimated that these bees fly approximately 150,000 miles to produce one pound of beeswax.  Right now there is an alert in the science and agriculture sectors because the bee colonies are disappearing.
• Organic carnauba wax: derived from the leaves of a Brazilian plant called the carnauba palm (Copernicia prunifera).
• Organic shea butter: extracted from the fruit of the shea tree.  Shea butter has strong moisturing and anti-inflammatory properties.
• Vitamin E: Vitamin E plays an important role in protection against free radicals that contribute to chronic illnesses. We source our Vitamin E from soy, not wheat.
• May contain (+/-): Mica: a silicate mineral from the earth, whose name comes from the Latin word 'micare', meaning 'shine'.  Mica use dates back way back to prehistoric times, with the earliest use found in paleolithic cave paintings.
• may contain (+/-): Carmine: a pigment derived from carminic acid, from the scales of certain insects such as the cochineal.  Vegans and people not turned on by bugs should not use the products we make with carmine.  Carmine is the only red color alternative to synthetic FD&C coloring, however, so we feel it is the better choice.
• May contain (+/-): Titanium dioxide: the natural occurring oxide of titanium, a substance mined from the earth.  The website "Skin Deep", which measures toxicity in make-up, indicates that titanium dioxide has "little absorption and no adverse health effects".  Titanium dioxide can be found in toothpastes and other food substances as well.  It is rated very safe by all accounts, but working with the substance can cause lung and respiratory problems.  PeaceKeeper would like to see more concrete research, as data gaps remain.
• May contain (+/-): Iron oxides: consist of sixteen known compounds of either oxides or hydroxides and oxidehydroxides.  Iron oxide yields pigments which are used in cosmetics and are considered non-toxic.

Vegan Nail Paint ingredients:

• argan oil:  an oil produced from the kernels of the argan tree (Argania spinosa).  Argan oil contains tocopherols, a natural source of Vitamin E.
• polyvinyl butyral:  a nonaqueous binding polymer that helps keep the nail polish from separating.
• butyl acetate: a naturally occurring solvent.
• ethyl acetate:  a synthetically produced solvent, favored for its low toxicity and agreeable smell.  Ethyl acetate is what gives our Nail Paints and Nail Polish Removers that nice scent!
• nitrocellulose:  a key ingredient in nail lacquer, providing a quick-drying, durable finish.
• acetyl tributyl-citrate:  a low-toxicity plasticizer that maintains our Nail Paints' fluidity and durability.
• adipic acid/neopentyl glycol/trimellitic anhydride copolymer:  a film-forming agent that allows for a smooth finish on your nails.
• isopropyl alcohol:  a solvent that keeps the viscosity of our Nail Paints in check, retaining a smooth texture without separating.
• stearalkonium bentonite:  a suspending agent.  Stearalkonium bentonite maintains an even distribution of ingredients in our Nail Paints.
• acrylates copolymer:  a copolymer that acts as a film-forming agent and a suspending agent, keeping your nail polish smooth and long-lasting.
• styrene/acrylates copolymer:  a film-forming agent.
• benzophenone-1:  a UV absorber.  Benzophenone-1 keeps the nail color from fading in the sun.
• silica:  an anti-caking agent.
• red 34 lake:  in industrial production of colorants, the term 'lake' is applied to pigments or dyes that are precipitated with metal salts such as aluminum, calcium, barium, etc.  Lake pigments are classified as 1 (not harmful) on the Environmental Working Group's "Skin Deep" cosmetics database.

• Organic extra virgin olive oil: is from the olive tree (Oloea europaea), originally from the Mediterranean region.  Olives are known to have existed 5,000 years ago in this region.  Olives are high in oleic acid, palmitic acid and other fatty acids, as well as antioxidants.
• Candelilla wax: derived from the leaves of the candelilla shrub (Euphorbiaceae) which is native to Mexico and the USA.
• Organic jojoba oil: wax produced from the seeds of the jojoba plant (Simmondsia chinensis) which can be found in the southern United states and Mexico.  Jojoba is high in fatty acids.
• Organic coconut oil: extracted from dry coconut.  Coconut oil consists of 90% saturated fatty acids along with lauric acid, palmitic acid and linoleic acid.
• Essential oil of spearmint: mint native to Europe (Mentha spicata) and is a herbaceous perennial plant.  Spearmint is known for its calming digestive properties.
• Tocopherol: also known as Vitamin E,  a fat-soluble antioxidant. Vitamin E plays an important role in protection against free radicals that contribute to chronic illnesses.
• Grapeseed oil: a vegetable oil pressed from the seeds of grapes (Vitis vinifera). Grapeseed oil possesses regenerative ingredients for the skin such as high levels of linoleic acid, anti-oxidants, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, beta carotene, Omega 3-6-9 and other skin revitalizing ingredients.  Alpha-tocopherol is known as the most biological antioxidant in humans.
• Rosemary extract: a perennial herb (Rosmarinus officinalis) and a member of the mint family Lamiaceae.
• Vitamin C: an essential nutrient which is known for its antioxidant qualities. Vitamin C is essential for all of life and is made internally by most organisms, humans being an exception.

Perfect As Is:

Organic cocoa powder:  derived from Theobroma cacao, cocoa powder is the low-fat component of chocolate.  It is rich in anti-inflammatory flavonoids.

Tocopherol:  also known as Vitamin E, a fat-soluble antioxidant. Vitamin E plays an important role in protection against free radicals that contribute to chronic illnesses. we source our Vitamin E from soy, not wheat.

Rosemary officinalis extract:  extracted from rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis).  Rosemary contains carnosic acid, an anti-oxidant.  Studies show that carnosic acid may also protect against strokes and neurodegenerative diseases.

Stevia:  a plant grown for its sweet leaves, stevia acts as a common sugar substitute.  It has a negligible effect on blood glucose and may even enhance glucose tolerance.

Ascorbyl palmitate:  a compound composed of Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) and palmitic acid, a naturally occurring fatty acid.  Vitamin C is an essential ingredient in the human diet, since we do not synthesize it internally; it acts as an antioxidant and can protect against scurvy.

Natural chocolate aroma:  the ingredient that gives our balm its delicious chocolatey scent!

Organic grapeseed oil:  pressed from the seeds of Vitis vinifera grapes.  Grapeseed oil is often used as a carrier oil for essential oils and contains anti-inflammatory and moisturizing agents, such as linoleic acid.

YUM Balm Ingredients:

These products are new and have not yet been ranked on the Environmental Working Group's "Skin Deep" rating system.

Organic beeswax: produced from the hives of honey bees. It is estimated that these bees fly approximately 150,000 miles to produce one pound of beeswax. Right now there is an alert in the science and agriculture sectors because the bee colonies are disappearing.

Silica: one of the most common constituents of sand. Silica serves as an anticaking and suspending agent, keeping our YUM Balms fresh for up to one year.

Organic shea butter: extracted from the fruit of the shea tree. Shea butter has strong moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties.

Tocopheryl acetate: a chemical compound of tocopherol, a natural source of Vitamin E, and acetic acid. Tocopheryl acetate acts as a skin-conditioning agent and antioxidant.

Red beet root juice: a natural colorant.

Red cabbage juice: a natural colorant.

Annatto powder: derived from the seeds of the achiote tree. Annatto powder is a natural colorant, and is widely used in Central and South America for body paint and lipstick.

Rice protein: a vegetarian protein sourced from brown rice. It is generally more digestible than wheat protein.

Organic goji extract: sourced from Lycium barbarum, goji berries contain 18 essential amino acids and 6 essential vitamins. It also contains linoleic acid, an essential acid with moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties.

• Ethyl lactate:  a solvent and fragrance agent, ethyl lactate is what helps our Nail Polish Remover take off even the toughest polish with no nasty odor.  We source our ethyl lactate from sugar beets.
• Glycerin:  a solvent and skin-conditioning agent.
• Water:  good old H20!
• Spearmint:  derived from the spearmint leaf (Mentha spicata).  Spearmint provides a sweet fragrance for our Nail Polish Remover, and is high in antioxidants.
• Rosemary verbenon oil: an essential oil high in verbenone content.  Verbenone has a pleasant aroma and may contain anti-microbial properties, a good match for the antioxidant rosemary.
