a message from jody, the founder of peacekeeper i have had to learn a lot real fast. at first chemists told me they could show me what real clean cosmetics look like… and they still had fd&c coloring, parabens, etc…. so i had to roll up my sleeves and learn the truth about safe cosmetics myself. a few chemists refused to make our products without their nasty ingredients but now we are working with extraordinary chemists and manufacturers who really get what we are trying to do and are learning more and more with us. we are now ranked as one of the safest cosmetics lines in america. peacekeeper is dedicated to creating cosmetics using non-toxic ingredients that will keep your body safe and healthy. we pride ourselves on our slogan: no nasty anything! we also have many vegan-friendly products.

lip gloss ingredients: 

rated 1 (low hazard) out of 10 (hazardhous) by the environmental working group’s skin deep rating system.

• organic castor oil - an evergreen shrub that has been used medicinally for about 4,000 years. castor oil contains lectins which are carbohydrate binding proteins.
• organic beeswax - produced from the hives of honey bees. it is estimated that these bees fly approximately 150,000 miles to produce one pound of beeswax. right now there is an alert in the science and agriculture sectors because the bee colonies are disappearing.
• organic carnauba wax -  derived from the leaves of a brazilian plant called the carnauba palm (copernicia prunifera).
• organic shea butter -extracted from the fruit of the shea tree. shea butter has strong moisturing and anti-inflammatory properties.
• vitamin e - derived from soy.
• may contain (+/-): mica - a silicate mineral from the earth and whose name comes from the latin word micare, which means "shine". mica use dates back way back to pre-historic times with the earliest use found in paleolithic cave paintings
• may contain (+/-): carmine - (the creepy crawly of our make-up line) is a pigment derived from carminic acid from the scales of certain insects such as the cochineal. vegans and folks not turned on by bugs should not use the products we make with carmine. carmine is the only red color alternative to synthetic fd&c coloring, so we feel it is the better choice.
• may contain (+/-): titanium dioxide - is the natural occurring oxide of titanium, a substance mined from the earth. the website skin deep, which measures toxicity in make-up, indicates that titanium dioxide has "little absorption and no adverse health effects". titanium dioxide can be found in toothpastes and other food substances as well. peacekeeper would like to see more concrete research as data gaps remain, titanium dioxide is rated very safe by all accounts though working with the substance can cause lung and respiratory problems.

• organic extra virgin olive oil - oloea europaea, is from the olive tree originally from the mediterranean region. olives are known to exist 5,000 years ago in this region. olives are high in oleic acid, palmitic acid and other fatty acids. olive oil is also high in antioxidants.
• candelilla wax - is euphorbiaceae and is derived from the leaves of the candelilla shrub which is native to mexico and the usa.
• organic jojoba oil - a wax produced from the seeds of the jojoba plant, simmondsia chinensis which can be found in the southern united states and mexico. jojoba is high in fatty acids.
• organic coconut oil - extracted from dry coconut. coconut oil consists of 90% saturated fatty acids along with lauric acid palmitic acid and linoleic acid.
• essential oil of spearmint - mentha spicata is mint native to europe and is a herbaceous perennial plant. spearmint is known for its calming digestive properties
• tocopherol – also known as vitamin e,  a fat-soluble antioxidant. vitamin e plays an important role in protection against free radicals that contribute to chronic illnesses.
• grapeseed oil - a vegetable oil pressed from the seeds of vitis vinifera grapes. grapeseed oil possesses regenerative ingredients for the skin such as high levels of linoleic acid, anti-oxidants, vitamin c, vitamin e, beta-carotene, omega 3-6-9 and other skin revitalizing ingredients. alpha-tocopherol is known as the most biological antioxidant in humans.
• rosemary extract – rosmarinus officinalis, is a perennial herb and is a member of the mint family lamiaceae.
• vitamin c – l-ascorbate is an essential nutrient which is known for its antioxidant qualities. vitamin c is essential for all of life and is made internally by most organisms, with humans being an exception.
